How many accidental managers are out there?
In 2017 the Chartered Management Institute’s Management Manifesto highlighted that there we were over 2.4 million in the UK costing the economy an estimated £84bn a year. Focusing the importance of finding a manager that has had the right career path, not just ‘fell into’ the role.
This is what a candidate of mine, has actively avoided. Although early on in his career, they have built-up their career and experienced every aspect of manufacturing from shop-floor to senior management which has helped him to manage and relate to every aspect of the process.
Although still very early in their career, they have become a skilled professional in manufacturing excellence, lean strategy and team leadership.
Key achievements include:
- Delivering over $5M annually in productivity by developing saving pipelines, innovative manufacturing improvement projects and risk mitigation initiatives.
- Lead or facilitated over 75 Kaizen events over 6 years
- Led large teams to achieve strategic goals in $100M+ turnover manufacturing environments.
This candidate is still early in his career so he would like his next role to include a good structure to continue his progression and a mentor for them to continue their development and learn the skills they need to continue to grow into a true manager.
