Why are you a good candidate? What are your unique selling points?
I believe there are three reasons I am a quality candidate.
First is training – always achieved good grades, undergo all training opportunities and qualified in a variety of subjects.
Second is experience, worked since 14, strong work ethic, apprenticeship so made my way from the bottom up, can converse easily with people from all walks of life, professional understanding of complex topics and subjects, and also experienced in influencing/persuading and managing individuals.
Finally, it is character. Some people have a job, and some have a career. The former goes to work 8-4 because that is what they are told they have to do. People that pursue their career do not care about the working hours, they simply care about the task at hand and ensure it is completed. I can work from home, in the office or on the road, I take full accountability and ownership of my role and can’t help but be personally responsible for any objective given to me.
3 greatest professional achievements:
- Setup full die production within Leoni, hiring staff, creating working practices and works instruction, training plans and quality control. Then proceeded to improve efficiencies and achieved a 33% reduction in spending on raw dies, which equated to approximately £50k.
- The proudest moment of my career was when I was asked to take over as Technical/Quality Coordinator – which was an amalgamation of two previous managers roles. I had to learn everything from scratch, including the technical aspects of the company (maths/physics) and lead a team of qualified engineers at 28 years old – whilst still retaining ownership of the Die Shop mentioned previously.
First project at Carbase was to solve the problem they had with vehicles on their forecourts having expired MOTs when the customers came to view. I setup an API feed from the government website that attached an expiry date to each vehicle in stock and used this to create a report in Google Data Studio (their equivalent to Power BI) that was then sent to each store. Then setup a process that ensured the branch leader put each vehicle through the MOT, ensuring they never expired. I removed the original issue 100%.
3 most important things about next move:
- Flexibility. Hate being constrained to a rigid working pattern, would like the opportunity to take my children to school some mornings when my partner works. Therefore, flexitime is top of my priorities. However, I am very eager to find a new company, and so this is not a deal breaker.
- Hybrid working – I always begrudge driving 45 minutes to work, just to sit at a computer all day. Obviously, some days you need to attend site and be present, but if there is a day of admin ahead, I like the option to work from home, saving fuel and commute time. However, I am very eager to find a new company, and so this is not a deal breaker.
- Stable professional company. I don’t like changing jobs, so in an ideal world I would retire at my next company. I want to work for a company that has a strong future, professional values and one that I can dedicate my time to with pleasure.
