It’ll be a challenge don’t get me wrong, so if you’re not up for something that’ll be quite tough at the start, it’s probably not for you.

Full transparency: they spend a lot of time firefighting so haven’t had the chance to develop and implement a PPM schedule before. If you’re the sort of person that sees that being an opportunity to start with a clean slate then you’re the kind of person they need.

It won’t be easy to start with, but with full autonomy to manage the function (there isn’t a team just yet), you can sort of do what you want. They’ll support you wherever they can including outsourcing some of the repairs to allow you the time to build a PPM schedule, which in future will obviously make your job a lot easier.

A positive to it is that there’ll be a lot of “easy” fixes initially, so you’ll be able to see the fruits of your labour pretty quickly once you get started. You’ll be on the shop floor about 70% of the time based across 2 sides of the business (one injection moulding and one tooling) and ideally you’ll be electrically biased with experience of hydraulics and pneumatics on the mechanical side.

You’ll be at the site in Rochdale, can set your own hours based on what suits you best and would be looking at around £40-45k initially, though as your influence in the business starts to increase I’d imagine your salary will follow.
